"There can be no worse
realization than when a
mother has to accept
that her own child is
capable of committing a
brutal murder." Kenny
Carlson (Chad Allen,
TV’s Dr
Quinn, Medicine
Woman) is just out of
prison after a two-year
stretch for armed
robbery, and he seems
willing to begin a new
life. Hoping with all
her heart that her
wayward son has been
straightened out in
prison, Sharon Carlson (Kate
Jackson) welcomes
Kenny with open arms on
the occasion of his
parole, as does everyone
in his immediate family
and circle of friends.
For a while, it seems as
though Sharon's
prayers
have been answered, and
that Kenny is finally
going to lead a decent
life. But when he is
reunited with his former
prison buddy Warren
Stubbs (Keith
Szarabajka), Kenny's
true nature once again
rises to the surface,
and it isn't long before
his behavior has
deteriorated
dangerously. Though she
was worried that this
would happen, Sharon
loyally sticks by her
son. A battered
corpse turns up and the
last known people to
have been with the
victim were Kenny and
Warren. Confronted by
his mother, Kenny
accuses Warren of the
murder, but his ex-buddy
tells a different story
– and says he can prove
that Kenny, not he, is
the bloodthirsty killer.
Confused and torn by a
mother’s love for her
child, Sharon must face
up to the worst about
her son and she does
everything in her power
to prove his innocence.
The grim outcome of this
story, taking place
during Sharon's
emotional courtroom
appearance, is implicit
in the film's title. Kate Jackson
gives a strong
performance as the torn
mother who discovers the
terrible truth about her
son. Definitely one of
Kate Jackson's best films.
